Questions writers ask
Straight answers. If yours is not here, ask a person.
The AI, and your book
Can the AI write the whole book?
Yes, scene by scene. Once the characters, the setting, and the outline exist, it can draft every scene in order, each one written from the world you built and from the scenes before it, so chapter thirty remembers chapter three. It works one scene at a time rather than in a single call, because that is what keeps the book consistent, and every scene lands only when you accept it. Every paragraph records whether you or a model wrote it.
Can it change something without telling me?
It cannot. No AI output writes to your book directly. Every suggestion arrives as a proposal with a diff, and it lands only when you accept it. Reject it and nothing happened.
What does the AI actually know when it drafts a scene?
Only what you built. The premise and voice, the structure, the story so far, the scene card, the characters in the room with their voice prints and arcs, the locked facts, the open threads, and the last words of the previous scene. Every proposal stores the exact pack it was given, so you can open it and read what the AI saw.
Do I have to build the whole world before I can write?
No. Build what the story touches. When you write a name the setting does not know yet, the desk notices and offers to draft the entry from the surrounding context. You approve it or you do not.
Can I undo something the AI made worse?
In one click. A version is filed before anything overwrites a row — every accepted proposal, every edit of your own, every autosave, every chapter save, and every move between a chapter's stations. Each one is labelled with the reason it was filed. Pick two at the desk to see what changed between them, and restore either.
Ownership and privacy
Who owns what I write here?
You do — all of it, including the proposals you accept. We claim no rights beyond storing and showing it back to you. See the copyright page.
Is my writing used to train AI?
No. Not by us, and our AI provider’s API terms prohibit it. The relevant parts of your book are sent to generate a proposal and are not kept for anything else.
Can anyone else see my book?
Only through a share link you create for one chapter, for as long as you leave it open. Readers of a share link are not identified and cannot see the rest of the book.
Can I get everything out?
Yes. Every plan downloads a whole book as plain text from “Read as a book”; paid plans add ePub, Word and other formats; and Account → Download my data gives you every table as one JSON file.
How do I delete my account?
On the account page, under “Export and delete”. It cancels any subscription first and removes everything. It cannot be undone, so download your export first.
Plans and billing
What does the free plan include?
1 book, 6 characters, 12 chapters, 60 AI generations and 60 Assistant messages a month, every planning stage and the writing desk. No card, no expiry.
What do Pro and Premium cost?
Pro is $12 a month or $120 a year; Premium is $25 a month or $250 a year. Both begin with a 7-day free trial. Details on the pricing page.
What is a “generation”?
One request to a model that writes something: a premise, a beat sheet, a scene draft, a revise pass, a proposal on a character. Suggestions in the side panel and health checks in Revise do not count. The counter is on your account page and resets on your billing date.
What happens when I hit a limit?
The button tells you, and nothing you have written is affected. You can wait for the reset, or upgrade — upgrading takes effect immediately.
How do I cancel, and do you refund?
Cancel in one click from Account → Manage billing; you keep paid features to the end of the period you paid for. Charges are final — there are no refunds, which is what the 7-day trial and Stripe’s renewal reminders are for. Details on the cancellation page.
Do you offer student or educator pricing?
Not yet as a button. Write to billing@draftbloom.com from an academic address and we will sort something out.
Using it
Can I bring a book I have already written?
Yes — choose “I have a manuscript” when you start a book. Markdown, plain text, Word, RTF or a zipped Scrivener project up to 4 MB. We show you the chapters we found before anything is created, and the setting and cast are built out of what you wrote.
Do I have to plan before I write?
No. “Just let me write” takes you straight to the desk, and the world fills in behind you as the desk notices names it does not know. The planning stages are there when you want them.
Which languages does it work in?
The interface is English. The models write well in most major languages if your premise and voice sample are in that language; we have not tested every one, so try the free plan first.
Does it work on a phone?
Every page works at phone width, and the desk is usable for reading and light edits. For a writing session a laptop is a better desk, which is true of most desks.
Is there an API, or a way to sync with Scrivener or Word?
Not yet. Exports are the bridge today; import is one-way. Tell hello@draftbloom.com what you would use and it moves up the list.
